The Virginia Geospatial Extension Program

Partnerships and Associations

The VGEP was founded in 2003, through seed funding provided by the Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE), the Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) and the Virginia Tech Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation (FREC). The VSGC provided extensive support for the VGEP during through 2005. This program migrated into a hard funded position at Virginia Tech in 2006, and is funded entirely through Virginia Cooperative Extension, and outside grant funding. The Virginia Geospatial Extension Program is the product of sustained collaboration of these and other organizations.

The VGEP is a partner of the the National Geospatial Technology Extension Network (NGTEN), and serves on a leadership role in Map@syst, an eXtension Community of Practice.

The Virginia Geospatial Extension Specialist serves on the executive board of the Virginia Association of Mapping and Land Information Systems (VAMLIS) and chairs the VAMLIS Educational Committee.
